SIOUX CITY -- Shirley Mae Paulson, 76, of Craig, Mo., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010, at a local hospital.

Services will be 7 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Scott Squires officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Oddfellows Cemetery at Craig, Mo. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Monday at the funeral home.

Shirley was born July 22, 1933, in Sioux City, the daughter of Robert Milton and Marie Gladys (Olmstead) Sumner. She graduated from East High School. She married Harold Skidmore. The couple was married for eight years, and had three children, Teresa, Julie and Mark. They later divorced.

In 1961, Shirley met and married James C. Paulson, and they had one child, Tamara. Later in life, they made their home in Craig, Mo. Shirley was a member of the city council and was elected mayor of Craig. She was very active in many civic duties and was a member of the American Legion.

Shirley loved her cats and many different flowers. She was a great cook and her cookies and nut clusters were a staple in Craig. She enjoyed being with her friends and family and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her son, Mark Skidmore and wife, Kim Suter of Alexandria, Minn.; daughters, Tamara Paulson of Mound City, Mo., Teresa and husband, John Puhrmann of Boerne, Texas, and Julie Biggers of Craig; a sister, Sharon and husband, Greg Fisher of Sioux City; nephews, Michael and David Sweum; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Don Rieger.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James C. Paulson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Shirley's name to First Church of the Nazarene in Craig, Mo., or the Oddfellows Cemetery Board.
