Henry B Denney

Henry B Denney, 72, 324 W. First St., died Tuesday, April 30, 1991, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Services will be at 9 a.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. John P. Hantla, pastor of Church of All Nations, officiating. Native American graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Catholic Cemetery in Santee, Nebraska.

Mr. Denney was born March 23, 1919, in Niobara, Nebr. and had been a Sioux City resident since the age of 6. He married Brenda J. Kaplan August 24, 1980, in South Sioux City. He was a meat cutter at Armour & Co. and also was employed as a truck driver until his retirement.

Mr. Denney was a former president of the Meat Cutters Union at Armour & Co. former chairman of the board of the American Indian Center, and former board member of the United Way. He currently was chairman of the board of the Native American Alcohol Treatment Center and was a member of the Woodbury County Labor Council. He was affiliated with the Church of All Nations. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry and his wife, Jodie of Sioux City; a stepson, Scott Sterling of Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Remington and Mrs. Paul (Karen) Gardner, both of Sioux City; three stepdaughters, Shelley Sterling of Iowa City, Iowa, Debra Sterling of Alexandria, Va., and Mrs. Milt (Joyce) Meyers of Every, Iowa; two brothers, Louis of Santee, Neb., and Harry of Sioux City; four sisters, Eva Mozak and Wanita Whitlock, both of Sioux City, Idella Swasey of Portland, Maine, and Mabel Swinhart of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and his first wife, Mary Denney.

Pallbearers will be Ron Denney, John Henry Denney, Jerry Denney, Jr., Andy Gardner, Butch Denney and Louis Mozak.
