CLIMBING HILL, Iowa -- Lyle D. Miller, 46, of Climbing Hill passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at his home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, with Pastors Dale Lint and Jim Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery at Climbing Hill. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Lyle was born on May 11, 1960, in Sioux City, the son of Lauren and Joyce (Chartier) Miller. He had lived on the same family farm outside of Climbing Hill his entire life. He graduated from Woodbury Central High School in 1978 and from Western Iowa Tech Community College, the farm mechanic program, in 1979.

He married Nancy Waples on Aug. 13, 1983, in Onawa, Iowa.

Lyle's first love, after his wife, Nancy, was the farm that he worked. He also enjoyed working on his own machinery and that of his neighbors. He was very active in 4-H work as he grew up. He continued his strong support of the 4-H program during his adult life and he had received many awards for his work. He enjoyed going to tractor pulls, snowmobiling and boating.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; his mother, Joyce Miller of Climbing Hill; his brother-in-law, Doug (Sue) Waples of Sioux City; his father-in-law, Don Waples of Onawa, Iowa; uncles, Richard (Christy) Chartier of Lincoln, Neb. and Tom (Ruth) Chartier of Moville, Iowa; and numerous nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father; and his mother-in-law, Gwen Waples.

The family wishes all memorial monies be directed to 4-H awards and/or the scholarship program at WITCC.
