CLIMBING HILL, Iowa -- Arthur "Artie" Kohlhof, 92, of Climbing Hill died Monday, April 21, 2003, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. today at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Kurt Seboe officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Arthur "Artie" William Peter Kohlhof was born April 24, 1910, in Climbing Hill, the son of Richard and Kathryn (Mohr) Kohlhof. He grew up in the area and attended Climbing Hill School.

On Dec. 5, 1935, he was united in marriage to Doris E. Tennis in Omaha. The couple made their home in Climbing Hill. His life's work was in the well drilling business and farming. Doris died unexpectedly Jan. 8, 1999.

He was a 4-H leader, a member of the school board and an avid bowler.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include two sons, Nick Kohlhof and his wife, Norma of Climbing Hill, and Roland Kohlhof of Glenwood, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Leah and Jack Yepsen of Johnston, Iowa; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; along with other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
