.Raymond Loyd Larson, 80, of Sioux City died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following an unexpected illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. E.D. Pappadackis officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Larson was born Dec. 18, 1921, in Ponca, Neb., the son of Arthur Emanuel and Edith May (Peacock) Larson. He lived east of Sioux City as a child and attended country school.

He married Ferne Kaelke on Dec. 12, 1943, in South Sioux City. She died March 19, 1993, in Sioux City. He later married Doris Crain on June 24, 1994, in Sioux City.

He farmed east of Leeds and then moved to Climbing Hill. He then returned to Sioux City, where he resided for the past 30 years. He was also employed as a millwright for Bartlett Grain and then he was the head painter for St. Joseph's Hospital in Sioux City, retiring in 1983.

He enjoyed reading, carpentry, woodworking and spending time working in his yard.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Larson of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Loran and Candy Larson of Sioux City; two daughters, Gloria and her husband, Danny Roling, of Sioux City, and Carolyn Larson of Apache Junction, Ariz.; six stepchildren, Lloyd Crain and his wife, Melissa, of Sioux City, Susan and her husband, Steve VanBuskirk, of VanMeter, Iowa, Charles Crain and his wife, Wendy, of Ackley, Iowa, Janice Bellar of Kansas City, Mo., Karen and her husband, Bruce Chalup, of Cassville, Mo., and Diane Duvall of Sioux City; two sisters, Evelyn and her husband, Wesley Bos, of Jackson, Mich., and Lucille Cantrell of Glendale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; and 18 great-stepgrandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Albert and Donald Larson.

Pallbearers will be Christopher, Ronald and Donald Larson, Ronald Rann, Cory Gaul and Nicholas Crain.
