CLIMBING HILL, Iowa -- Dennis L. Harderson, 57, of Climbing Hill died unexpectedly of natural causes Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at his home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill, with the Rev. Dr. Klaus Raab officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville, Iowa.

Dennis was born on May 20, 1949, in Sioux City, the son of Charles and Dora (Burow) Harderson. He had always lived in this area, mostly around Climbing Hill. He was a graduate of Woodbury Central High School. Dennis had perfect attendance at school from kindergarten through 12th grade, and he was very proud that the football team won the conference championship. This was prior to the state playoffs that we have now.

He managed gas stations for Hudson Oil for 10 years. He then drover over-the-road trucks for Hirschbach Motor Lines Inc. and then Pyle Trucking from Schaller, Iowa. He retired several years ago.

Dennis was known as a "people person" -- no one was a stranger to him. He was very active in the Republican Party for the county. He enjoyed restoring old cars, loved to be play cards and he loved to cook. His pecan pies were famous in the area, and he grew a large vegetable garden. He was especially proud of his niece and two nephews and treated them like they were his own children.

Survivors include a brother, Charles F. and his wife, Mary Jo Harderson of Corning, Iowa; a niece, Sarah and her husband, Matt Bidne of Peoria, Ill., and their son, Conner; two nephews, John Harderson of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Joe Harderson of Maryville, Mo; an uncle, Albert and his wife, Hertha Burow of Mapleton, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two aunts, Helen Harderson and Louise and her husband, Max Haakinson.

The family suggests memorials in his name in care of the family.
