MOVILLE, Iowa -- Kristen Rene Haberl, 45, of Moville passed away Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville, with the Rev. Mark J. Stoll officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery at Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes in Moville. Online condolences may be sent to www.christysmith.com .

Kristen was born Aug. 7, 1963, at Rapid City, S.D., the daughter of Wallace and Anita (Cronk) Bertrand. As a young girl, she moved with her family around the country until settling in Vermillion, S.D., where she attended school and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1981. She continued her education at USD. Kristen managed Hardees Restaurants in Columbus, Neb., Carroll, Iowa, and Vermillion, S.D.

She married Scott Haberl on May 8, 1993, at Maple River, Iowa. Together they lived in Vermillion for a few months before making their home in Moville. Kristen and Scott owned and operated Haberl Tile and Stone.

Kristen was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville. She enjoyed gardening her flowers and was an avid reader. She loved being involved with her children and their activities.

Survivors include her husband, Scott Haberl of Moville; two sons, Nicholas and Josh Haberl of Moville; her mother and stepfather, Anita and Les "Kerm" Kephart of Vermillion; two sisters, Julie Bertrand of Adana, Turkey, and Erika and Keith Lapour of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two stepsisters, Christine and Brian Rasmussen of Laurel, Neb., and Heather and Kurt Doeden of Sioux Falls, S.D.; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Bertrand.
