.Dale Ernest Haakinson, 71, of Sioux City died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at his residence, surrounded by his family, following a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill, Iowa, with Chaplain Glen E. Houts of Hospice of Siouxland officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 9 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Dale was born May 6, 1933, in Moville, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Nora L. (Carr) Haakinson. He was raised in the Smithland and Rodney, Iowa areas and attended Smithland schools.

He married Charlette Ann Reibe on July 5, 1952, in the parsonage of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux City. The family had lived in the same home in Sioux City for the past 52 years. He was employed with A.Y. McDonald Manufacturing Co. from 1952 to 1976. He then worked for Briggs Inc. from 1977 until his retirement in 1993. He retired early because of health problems.

He enjoyed bowling, fishing and belonged to cribbage leagues.

Survivors include his wife, Charlette Ann Haakinson of Sioux City; two daughters, Kathy D. and her husband, James B. Johnson of Ames, Iowa, and Lynn Marie Mozak of Creighton, Neb.; two sons and their wives, Mickey L. and Debbie Haakinson of Breese, Ill., and Jeffrey A. and Jerri Haakinson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sisters, Sara Jane Vondresak and Maxine Smicker, both of Illinois; 13 grandchildren, Stacie Lenzen, Heather Ann Johnson, Ryan Nicolle Haakinson, Terry Haakinson, Joe Wagner, Christopher Pederson, Tanya Robinette, Colter Mozak, Garrett Mozak, Tara Mozak, Melissa Haakinson, Jake Haakinson and Mackenzie Cloud; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Roni Jo and Levi Robinette.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Conard, Wayne, Leland "Leo" and Ralph Haakinson; and three sisters, Shirley Elsner, LaVonne Zortman and Lois Ludeman.

Pallbearers will be James B. Johnson, David C. Lenzen, Bill Baker, Colter Mozak, Garrett Mozak, Wyatt Kettleson and LeRoy Robinette. Honorary pallbearers will be Stacie Johnson Lenzen, Heather Ann Johnson, Ryan Nicolle Haakinson, Tanya Robinette, Tara Mozak, Melissa Haakinson and Mackenzie Cloud.
