Climbing Hill died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Bickford Cottage in Sioux City.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Climbing Hill. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery in Climbing Hill. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.

The daughter of Orlo and Grace (Tripplet) Saar, Viola was born on March 3, 1919, on a ranch in Rock County, Neb. She grew up in Sioux City and then moved to Missouri, where she married Carl Daily at Unionville, Mo. in 1941. To this union, one son was born, Ray Carroll Daily. Carl passed away in 1943.

Later, Viola and her son moved back to Sioux City, where she married Vernon Heck on Dec. 2, 1953. To this union, three sons were born, Jerry, Marty and Doug. They moved to the farm outside of Climbing Hill in 1954 and lived there for 50 years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Climbing Hill and belonged to many social groups. Viola was a great cook and a hard-working farm wife. She loved her sons and all of her grandchildren.

Left to mourn her passing include her husband, Vernon; four sons and their wives, Ray and Ella Daily of El Paso, Texas, Jerry and Donna Heck of Gloucester, Mass., Marty and Julie Heck and Doug and Kim Heck, all of Moville, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Bud and Betty Jacobs of Unionville, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Carl; her stepfather, Otis Jacobs; a brother, Gene Jacobs; and a sister, Carrie Baranowski.
