LAWTON, Iowa -- Erna E. Green, 85, of South Sioux City, formerly of Lawton, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at a South Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Bruce Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 4 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.

Mrs. Green was born on May 26, 1920, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Oswald and Anna (Wiegel) Zobel. The family moved around to several towns, including Charter Oak, Smithland, Anthon, Climbing Hill, Hornick and finally to Lawton in 1979. She had her early schooling in Charter Oak.

On Oct. 16, 1937, she married William P. Green in Sioux City. He died on Dec. 17, 1991, in Sioux City. The couple farmed around the area while Erna raised their family. She and her husband spent many years as the cleaning persons of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton. Mrs. Green moved into the assisted living quarters of the nursing home in South Sioux about two years ago.

She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, the Ladies Aid of the church, Lamplighters group within the church, the Lawton Garden Club and the Lawton Senior Citizens.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Gerald) Sands of South Sioux City, and Janet (William) Meyer of Novato, Calif.; two sons, Roger (Sherrie) Green of Spencer, Iowa, and Alan (Judy) Green of Hutchinson, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Gerald Jr., Thomas, Debbie, Shannon, Angi, Don, Darci, Scott and Courtney; 19 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandchild, Jimmie Mitchell; and two sisters, Clara Carlson and Marie Maas.

The family suggests memorials to Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton.
