MOVILLE, Iowa -- Dorothy Mae "Aunt Sis" Gesaman, 89, of Moville died Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center.

Following cremation, there will be graveside services at 2 p.m. Tuesday in West Fork Cemetery at Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a memorial service at 7 p.m., with Chaplain Glen Houts Jr. of Hospice of Siouxland officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Dorothy was born Sept. 29, 1916, in Climbing Hill, the daughter of Joseph Platte and Elizabeth Ladell "Bess" (Galbraith) Gesaman. She graduated from Climbing Hill Consolidated Schools. Dorothy received a one-year scholarship to attend college in Dubuque, Iowa. She received her master's degree from Morningside College. She taught school for over 40 years in country schools, Sergeant Bluff and later, Sioux City. She lived in Moville until 2004, when she entered Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center.

Dorothy served on numerous boards and committees throughout her life and was a community volunteer. She established the Moville Senior Center and was instrumental in starting the Moville Medical Clinic. She enjoyed baking and canning, sewing, needlework, crocheting and being with her dogs, Buster and O'Toole. She was a loving sister and aunt.

Survivors include a sister, Vernette "Squeak" Parker of Climbing Hill; a sister-in-law, Nellye "Babe" Metcalf of Des Moines; six nieces and nephews and their spouses, Dan Parker and Kay of Sioux Falls, S.D., Carolyn Jacobsen of Moville, Kristy Hayes and Mike of Sioux City, Pam Oliver and Kendall of Lawton, Iowa, Gary Gesaman and Kay of Norwalk, Iowa and Jane Trieff of Fort Mohave, Ariz.; 14 great nieces and nephews; and eight great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin "John" Gesaman; and a great nephew, Shane Parker.
