CLIMBING HILL, Iowa -- Warren D. Baird, 69, of rural Climbing Hill died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Monday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. Burial will be at a later date in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Authorities identify man who died in accident near Sloan

SIOUX CITY -- The Woodbury County Sheriff's Office has identified the victims from a two-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday morning east of Sloan, Iowa.

One of the vehicles was occupied by Warren Baird, 69, and his wife Ladean Baird, 67, of rural Moville. The other vehicle was occupied by Jonathan Starkenburg, of Boyden, Iowa.

Warren Baird died in the accident and Ladean Baird was transported to Mercy Medical Center by Sloan Ambulance with injuries. Starkenburg was transported by Salix Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center.

The accident happened at 9:25 a.m. in the 2100 block of Highway 141, between Eastland and Emmet Avenues.

While the exact cause of the accident is unknown, the sheriff's office believes that one of the vehicles crossed the centerline striking the other nearly head-on. The sheriff's office said all persons involved in the collision were wearing seatbelts.

The accident remains under investigation and will be reviewed by the Woodbury County Attorney's Office for potential charges.
