Funeral Services Held Friday For Martin Jansen

Funeral services for Martin R. Jansen, 64, longtime Mayor of Lawton, were held Friday August 14, 1992 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Rev. Louis J. Sievert officiated. Interment was in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton, under the direction of Christy Morningside Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Esther Todd, organist, accompanied Congregational Hymns, “How Great Thou Art,” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.”

Casket bearers were Messrs. Bill Kisting, Harold Robinson, Bob Andrus, Andy, Stuart and Jeff Nitzschke.

Mr. Jansen was born March 20, 1928 in Moville. He graduated from the Anthon/Oto School system. He came to Sioux City after his discharge from the Navy during World War II. He married Maxine D. Blades May 1, 1948 in Elk Point, South Dakota. He worked for Armour & Company for 15 years while living in Sioux City. The couple moved to Lawton in 1962 and he worked for the City of Lawton and drove a school bus for the Lawton-Bronson school system until 1972.

He served as mayor of Lawton the last 15 years. He was a member of the Lawton American Legion Post 718 and longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Sioux City.

Mr. Jansen died unexpectedly Monday August 10, 1992 in a Sioux City hospital emergency room.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Donald of Lawton and Darrell of San Diego, California and four brothers, Ralph, Peter and Alvin “Chris” Jansen, all of Sioux City and Lloyd of Palm Harbor, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leonard; and a Sister, Eldora Kowalski.

A memorial has been established in his name with Grace Lutheran Church.
