13 December 2000Smithland, Iowa—Charles Raymond Peterson, 56, of Smithland died Sunday, December 10, 2000 at his residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oto, Iowa. Burial will be Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 6:30 p.m. at the church. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time, Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa.
Mr. Peterson was born December 25, 1943 in Onawa, Iowa the son of Axel and Della (Lyman) Peterson. He had lived in the Castana, Moorhead and Onawa, Iowa areas.
He married Helen “Wimpy” Shook on July 7, 1962. He drove truck and worked as a mechanic. He was employed with Frank Seitzinger Farms. From 1979 to 1984, the couple owned and operated “Wimpy’s Bar” in Rodney, Iowa. In 1985, he began farming for himself and they moved to Smithland.
He was a former member of the Eagles Club.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Onawa; three son and their wives, Steve and Dee of Sibley., Iowa, Jeff and Liz of Smithland, and David and Tiffany of Northport, Ala; two daughters and their husbands Cheryl and Ron Weber of Smithland and Kathy and Steve Dewald of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; four brothers, Jim and his special friend, Teresa and Carl “Burt”, all of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Donny and his wife, Suzie of Washington, and Jerry and his wife Carol of Ralston, Nebr.; and three sisters, Anna Marie Bobier of Sioux Falls, S.D., Ruth and her husband, Kent Vattlett of Omaha and Mary Means of Decorah, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father.
