SMITHLAND, Iowa -- Gary Alan Coon, 41, of Smithland died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Coon was born Aug. 8, 1961, in Sioux City, the son of James and Marjorie (Davis) Coon. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from East High School in 1980.

He married Marlene Kay Mack on Oct. 27, 1990. He moved to Smithland in March 1992.

He was a member of Washington Heights Chapel in Sioux City. He enjoyed bowling, loved the outdoors, and watching and visiting with people.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene Kay Coon of Smithland; his parents, James and Marjorie Coon of Holly Springs, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Raymond and Deborah Coon of Parker, Colo., and Ron and Lisa Coon of Omaha; his grandmother, Viola Coon; his mother and father-in-law, Warren and Darlene Mack of Smithland; a brother-in-law and his wife, Brian and Lynette Mack of Smithland; a sister-in-law, Laura Mack of Smithland; five nieces and nephews, Angela and April Coon, Ashton, Cassie and Samantha Mack; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by Grandpa Coon and Grandpa and Grandma Davis.
