SMITHLAND, Iowa -- Burdett D. "Bud" Wood Sr., 87, of Hillsville, Va., formerly of Smithland, died Thursday, Nov. 14, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart, Va.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Cemetery, Smithland. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.

Burdett Dean "Bud" Wood Sr. was born Feb. 8, 1915, at Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Glen Wood Sr. and Gladys (Harper) Wood.

On Feb. 25, 1933, he was united in marriage to Masel Fern Davis at Dakota City, Neb. Bud lived most of his life in Monona and Woodbury counties in Iowa. He worked for Western Iowa Experimental Farm for nearly 25 years until his retirement. Masel died Oct. 6, 1998. Bud returned to Virginia to be near his son.

Those survivors remaining to cherish his memory include a son, Burdett Dean "Buddy" Wood Jr. and his wife, Patricia; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his beloved wife, Masel, Bud was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Glen Wood Jr.
