SMITHLAND, Iowa -- Clarence Jasper Christianson, 93, of Smithland, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Willman Funeral Chapel in Rodney, Iowa. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery in Smithland. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Mr. Christianson was born May 12, 1908, in Burlington, Colo., the son of Albert and Cora (Clingenpeel) Christianson. He lived in Smithland, Castana and Ute as a child. He married Viola Frimml on April 19, 1969, in Newton, Iowa. He farmed near Smithland, then was a milk tester for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association in Williamsburg, Iowa, worked for Iowa Manufacturing Productions and was a caretaker at Fowler Park. He retired to Smithland.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Richard and his wife, Barbara, of Grand Island, Neb., Larry and his wife, Josephine, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Robert of Farmington, N. Mex.; Albert and his wife, Donna, of Mitchell, S.D.; four daughters, Betty Klinker of Charter Oak, Iowa, Roberta and her husband, Charles Nerison, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Paulette and her husband, Dennis Nidney, of McHenry, Ill., Karen and her husband, Kenneth Brooker, of Iowa City, Iowa; three stepchildren, Lynn Schulte and his wife, Faylynn, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Diane Weems of Vinton, Iowa, and Cindy Crow of Blairstown, Iowa; 27 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; one great-stepgrandchild; and a sister, Mina Larson of Baltimore, Md.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Thelma; two sons, Kevin and Reginald; a sister, Lella Shannon; and a brother, Glyde.
