SMITHLAND, Iowa -- Lloyd Wayne Braun, 59, of Smithland died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at his residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, with military honors conducted by the American Legion Hindman-Steele Post 492 of Hornick, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Braun was born April 22, 1942, in Danbury, the son of Charles and Marian (Larson) Braun. He married Alice Ryan on Sept. 24, 1960, in Anthon. To this union two daughters were born, Cynthia Lynn and Melissa Jo. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 11, 1960 and was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla. He was discharged July 10, 1963 with the rank of Sergeant E5. He was employed with Western Electric, Omaha Public Power, Airborn Instrument Lab, Zenith Company, and U.S. West for 17 years as a maintenance supervisor. After retiring in 1989, he engaged in farming and quit farming due to health reasons.

He was a member of the American Legion Hindman-Steele Post 492 of Hornick.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Pat McBride of Kingsley, Iowa, Melissa and John Wojcik of Smithland; two grandchildren, Stefanie Kay and Jason John Wojcik of Smithland; two brothers, Carl H. Braun of Sioux City, and Richard and his wife, Deanna Braun, of Salix, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
