SMITHLAND, Iowa -- Doris I. Nickolisen, 70, of Smithland died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Smithland, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Willman Funeral Home in Rodney, Iowa.

Doris was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Ticonic, Iowa, the daughter of Arnold and Merle (Aldrich) Richardson. She attended and graduated from Smithland High School in 1949.

Doris married Miller Nickolisen on Oct. 21, 1949, in Smithland. Mrs. Nickolisen was a homemaker. Doris and Miller raised their five children on their farm near Smithland. She enjoyed working with the Smithland Museum and attending her children's and grandchildren's activities. She and Miller enjoyed traveling.

She was a member of United Methodist Church of Smithland and was active in many women's groups. She taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Miller; her father and stepmother, Arnold and Maxine Richardson of Mapleton, Iowa; a son and his wife, Darwin and Brenda Nickolisen of Alta, Iowa; four daughters, Kathy Nenin of Sioux City, Karla and her husband, David Lange of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Tricia and her husband, Doug Durst of Shawnee, Kan., and Amy and her husband, Dennis O'Neal of Hornick, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; a sister, Helen Tabke of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a brother and his wife, Ray and Louise Richardson of Clayton, N.M.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Merle; and a granddaughter, Rachael Lange.

Pallbearers will be Chet Claus, Robert Johnson, Joel Lange, Nicholas Lange, Nathan Nickolisen and Skip Shattuck. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Stacie Anderson, Joshua and Stephanie Menin, Kayla Nickolisen, Kristin and Kali Lange, Devin and Jackson Durst, Jena, Michael, Paige and Andrew O'Neal.
