MAPLETON, Iowa -- Aleita Manson, 87, of Mapleton, formerly of Rodney and Smithland, Iowa, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at United Church of Christ in Rodney, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery in Smithland. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Willman Funeral Home in Rodney.

Mrs. Manson was born Nov. 7, 1913, in Bronson, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Freeda (Silvus) Cook. She graduated from Smithland High School and helped her father on the farm. She married James M. Manson on Feb. 21, 1934, in Smithland. They farmed near Smithland before moving into Smithland. He died Sept. 27, 1994, at Maple Heights Nursing Home.

She was a member of Rodney United Church of Christ and the Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of American Legion Leslie F. Seaton Post 666 Auxiliary at Smithland and the Rodney Senior Citizens.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Gary and Dorothy Manson of Pleasant Hill, Ill.; a daughter and her husband, Patricia and Bernard Barry of Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Denise Collard, Lisa Marie Barry, Elizabeth Barry and Patrice Barry, Gail Manson, Kelly Barry and Ray Barry; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
