28 October 1998Masel Fern Wood was born May 22, 1914 at Smithland, Iowa the daughter of Charles W and Emma R (Petit) Davis. On February 25, 1933, she was united in marriage to B.D. “Bud” Wood at Dakota City, Nebraska. The couple lived in Castana, Iowa form 1950 to 1980 when they moved to Smithland, Iowa where they resided until 1989. They then lived in Onawa, Iowa until 1996 when they moved to Mapleton.
Masel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Smithland.
Those survivors left to cherish her memory include Bud, her husband of 65 years; one son, Burdette Wood Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Suffolk, Virginia; one sister, Ethel Wood who resided at Elmwood Nursing Home in Onawa, Iowa.; three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandson along with other relatives, neighbors and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and five sisters.
Funeral Services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 9, 1998 at the United Methodist Church, Smithland, Iowa, with Pastor Karen Handke officiating. The organist was Ardith Armour and the vocalists, Jim and Brenda Wood, sang the selection, “Beyond the Sunset” and “Follow Me”.
Casket Bearers were Jim Wood Sr., Mike Wood, Brad Larsen, Jim Wood Jr. Jody Wood, Lisa Larsen Jones.
Interment was in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa. Arrangements were by Armstrong Funeral Service.
