Smithland, Iowa—Beulah B. Palmer, 96, formerly of Smithland, died Friday, October 25, 1996, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 Monday at the Smithland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karen Handke, church pastor officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mrs. Palmer, the former Beulah Farrar, was born Dec. 2, 1899, in Kearney, Neb., the daughter of William K. and Flora A (Handy) Farrar. She married Elmer Paris Palmer on April 14, 1919, in Grand Island, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Kearney. He died in March 1959 in Mapleton, Iowa. Mrs. Plamer was a longtime resident of the Mapleton/Smithland area and had worked as a cook for the Woodbury County Farm, Smithland School and Sioux Trails Girl Scout Camp. She had also been employed as a telephone operator. Mrs. Palmer lived in LeMars, Iowa, for several years before entering the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa, in May 1996.

Mrs. Palmer was affiliated with the United Methodist Church in Smithland and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include three sons, Donald of Ocean Park, Wash., Paul J and his wife Marilyn of Washta, Iowa and Gail and his wife Linda of Sioux City; two daughters, Mrs. Elvin (Mildred) Burns of Whiting, and Mrs. Betty Gerrietts of Le Mars; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mae Doris Robbins; a grandson, Jon Robbins and brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be given in her name to the American Diabetes Association.
