Smithland, Iowa—Allen Lee Fowler, 78, of Council Bluffs, formerly of Smithland, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 1995, at a hospital in Council Bluffs.

Private services will be Saturday at the Willman Funeral Home in Rodney. The Rev Karen Dearchs will officiate. Burial will be in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Fowler was born January 14, 1916 in Wellsford, Kansas. He lived most of his life in the Smithland, Oto and Sioux City areas. He served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. He drove a truck for the Red Ball Express under Gen. George Patton.

Mr. Fowler was a member of Leslie F. Seaton Post 666, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include three sisters, Eva and her husband, Lavern Duhigg of Vancouver, Wash, Elsie and her husband, Donald Newman and Betty Sulsberger, all of Smithland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Demis Fowler; a sister, Mildred Wilson and a brother, Fred.
