Ernest Ostermeyer

Ernest A. Ostermeyer, 68, 1925 W. Fifth St., died Wednesday, May 29, 1991, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Services will be a 10 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Ernest M. Caltvedt officiating. Burial will be Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7-9 p.m. at Christy Westside Funeral Home, 711 Myrte St.

Mr. Ostermeyer was born August 7, 1922 in Portsmouth, Iowa and attended school in Climbing Hill, Iowa. He married Joan Andersen October 20, 1956, in South Sioux City. The couple had lived in Sioux City the last 30 years. He was employed as a custodial engineer for the Sioux City Public School System for 23 years, retiring in 1987.

Mr. Ostermeyer was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a sergeant with the Army 14th Infantry Regiment 71st Division during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, a son, Gary and his wife, Carol Ostermeyer of SIoux City; five daughters, Debra Simon, Sharon and Karen Ostermeyer and Ernestine and husband, Dan Engle, all of Sioux City and Jane and husband, Doug Maurer of Sarasota, Florida; 11 grandchildren; eight-great-grandchildren and seven sisters, Margaret Hill of Cherokee, Iowa, Clara Warrell of Hornick, Iowa, Cecia DeGoosh of Bradford, Vt., Helen Fellman of Pleasanton, California, Marcella Hand of Rock Falls, Ill, Evelyn VanMeter of Kansas City, Mo., and Irene Nystrup of Akron, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Leannel two brothers, Leo and Laurence; a sister, Hilda Kirkpatrick and a great-grandson.
