Pauline Benischek

Pauline A. Phillips Benischek, 78, 2715 S. Palmetto St., died Tuesday, July 28, 1992, at a Sioux City hospital following a sudden illness.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. today at Berkemier Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil Olsen, of Tri State Christian Church officiating. The ashes will be buried at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Mrs. Benischek, the former Pauline A. Nelson, was born August 29, 1913, in Owego, Iowa and moved to Luton, Iowa, in infancy. She attended Luton Schools. On June 13, 1930, she married Wayne Phillips. The couple made their home in Sioux City. She moved to Kansas City, Mo., in 1960 where she was employed by Nellie Don Manufacturing Co. She returned to Sioux City in 1968. She married Lee M. Benischek October 18, 1982. She was employed for 20 years at Mayhew Truck Garden, after which she was employed at Aalfs Manufacturing Co. for a number of years. She was employed at Zenith Corp. until its closing, after which she worked for Hoveland Manufacturing. She retired in 1975 because of poor health.

Mrs. Benischek was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Auxiliary 185. She was a Red Cross volunteer during World War II.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter and her husband, Louise and Carl Fetterman of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Mahlon and Dorothy Phillips and Duane and Joyce Phillips, all of Sioux City; a brother, Victor Nelson and his wife, Dorothy of Anthon, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Betty Nelson of Hornick, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Harold and Paul Nelson.
