Funeral Services Held For Russel Thompson

Funeral services for Russell D. Thompson, 51, of Lawton, were held Thursday, January 29, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at The Nazarene Church in Climbing Hill. Rev. Peter Kling officiated. Interment was in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill, under the direction of Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Casketbearers were Messrs. Chris Hanner, Tim Malloy, Bob Arnold, Tony, Steve, and Rich Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was born April 13, 1946 in Rodney, Iowa. He attended school in Bronson and graduated from East High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army.

He married Karen Welty on September, 8, 1967, in Nashua, Iowa. He had lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado and the Sioux City area before moving to Lawton 26 years ago. He was employed with the state highway department, Armour Packing Plant and Midwest Power from 1979 to 1994. He retired in 1994.

He was a member of the Nazarene Church and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 499.

Mr., Thompson died Sunday, January 25, 1998 in a Sioux City hospital due to complications from Muscular Dystrophy.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Traci and her husband James Inman of Seattle, Washington and Amy Thompson of Olathe, Kansas; and two brothers and their wives, Duane and Gloria and Larry and Linn, all of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Virginia Jones.
