Ronald Roger Hansen, 60, of Bainbridge Island, Wash., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003.

Memorial service were held Jan. 21 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Bainbridge Island, Wash. Memorial services will be at a later date at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home in Bainbridge Island.

Ronald Roger Hansen was born Oct. 9, 1942, in Sioux City, the son of Dwight Wilbur and Lorene (Sorensen) Hansen. He always had a strong passion for learning. He remained in Sioux City to earn his bachelor of science degree in mathematics and accounting from Morningside College. He continued his education at Louisiana State University and received his master's degree in mathematics. He began his career teaching school for eight years in Whiting, Iowa. He moved to Houston, Texas, and worked for Texas Instruments, Occidental Petroleum and First City BankCorp, where he progressed to Information Systems Audit. He then established the Information System Audit Department at Martin-Marietta Corporation in Denver, Colo., and Orlando, Fla., and for MCI in Washington, D.C., where he was executive director of Internal Audit. Having always appreciated nature, he moved to Bainbridge Island to live in the Pacific Northwest.

He had a very gracious and welcoming nature and will be remembered by the many people he embraced as a man of great wit and kind heart. Throughout his life, he cared for others and excelled at guiding people toward their full potential in life. His other great passion was his love of music, and with his very distinctive bass voice. He enjoyed singing in many choirs throughout the years.

He is survived by his mother, Lorene of Sioux City; his wife, Kathryn Helen of Bainbridge Island; a daughter, Jennifer Lynn of Seattle, Wash.; four brothers, Robert of Jordan, Minn., Craig of New Prague, Minn., Brent of Sioux City, and David of Des Moines; and his beloved dog, ChiLon.

Memorials may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church and the Compass Center in Seattle.
