11 January 2003Mary Frances Hacker, 84, of Sioux City died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at her daughter's residence in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Revs. Steven W. Brodersen and Timothy A. Johnson officiating. The St. Vincent Nurses Alumni Association will have an honor guard at the church. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with a rosary by the Catholic Daughters of America and the Carmelite Board at 4 p.m., a parish vigil at 7 p.m., with a rosary to immediately follow the vigil service. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Northside Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hacker was born March 10, 1918, in Sioux City, the daughter of Maurice and Margaret (Fitzpatrick) Underscheid. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1936. She attended Briar Cliff College and graduated from St. Vincent School of Nursing with her R.N. degree in 1939.
She married Charles W. Hacker at St. Joseph Church in Sioux City. He died on Jan. 11, 1995, in Sioux City. She was employed as a registered nurse and nursing instructor at St. Vincent School of Nursing, retiring in 1973. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a member of the church Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters of America Ave Maria Court 269 and the Carmelite Guild Board. She also was a member of St. Vincent Nurses Alumni Association. She was deeply involved with her family and church.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Larry and Maureen Hacker of Las Vegas, Nev., Gary and Jan Hacker of Omaha, Neb., and Charles and Mary E. Hacker of Sioux City; three daughters, Maurine and her husband, Bob Hacker of Omaha, Mary "Sam" Hacker, and Margie and her husband, John Fitch, all of Sioux City; 23 grandchildren, Mary E. and her husband, John Demos, Mark Hacker, Joe Hacker and his fiancee, Cathy Greepenburg, and Liz Hacker, all of Florida, Jason Nygren of Minneapolis, Minn., Lori and her husband, Bill Farrell of Omaha, Barb Madison of Dallas, Texas, Dave and his wife, Mary L. Hacker of Sioux City, Scott and his wife, Carroll Hacker, Tom Hacker, Tim and his wife, Kristine Hacker, and Kim Hacker, all of Omaha, Anthony "T.J." and his wife, Yvon Fitch of Sioux City, Catherine and her husband, Jason Foss of Forest Lake, Minn., Brean Fitch and his fiancee, Teresa Allen, William Fitch, Gary Fitch, Amy Hacker and her friend, Corey Berg, Jenny Hacker and her friend, Mike
Cramer, Lindsay Hacker, Britnee Hacker and her friend, Eric Jorgensen, Trey Hacker and Shay Hacker, all of Sioux City; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was grandma to many special young people in Sioux City and is survived by many close relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two infant children and an infant grandson.
Pallbearers will be J.J. Boatman, Dusty Boatman, Clint Boatman, Skylar Boatman, Cody Boatman and Bo Boatman.
A memorial in her name will be named at a later date.
