Joe L. Trexel, 78, of International Falls, Minn., formerly of Sioux City, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Falls Good Samaritan Care Center in International Falls.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Evangelical Covenant Church in International Falls, with a color guard and flag presentation. Arrangements are under the direction of Green-Larson Mortuary in International Falls.

Mr. Trexel was born Jan. 12, 1925, in Denison, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945, during World War II, as a signalman on a sub-chaser.

He married Darlene Ruth Malone on April 1, 1945. They were married for over 50 years. After the war, he worked at his uncle's photography studio in Newark, Ohio. He later worked for Genelli Photography Studio in Sioux City. He worked at his own studio in Salida, Colo., for a couple of years, then returned to Genelli Studio, where he worked for many years. In 1973, he opened Trexel Photography Studio in International Falls. He worked as a professional photographer consultant for Ultra Color Lab in Staples, Minn. Upon retiring, the couple resided in Salida and Pueblo, Colo. He returned to International Falls in 1997.

He enjoyed time with his family and friends, fishing, playing cards and photography as well as a good sense of humor.

He is survived by his children, Steve (Deanna) Trexel of Coaldale, Colo., Sue (Bill) Rhodes of Moffat, Colo., Joel (Lynda) Trexel of Olney Springs, Colo., Brian (Dawn) Trexel of North St. Paul, Minn., Debbie (Kevin) Skifstad of International Falls, Jon (Juanita) Trexel of Ceresco, Neb., and Lisa (Todd) Olsen of Lacey, Wash.; 28 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Jane Hagemann of Ricketts, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Bob) Kamp of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Susan Trexel; his wife, Darlene; and an infant grandson, Kristofer Joel Trexel.
