Clayton L. Rise .
..Clayton L. Rise, 81, of Sun City West, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in Arizona.

Memorial services will be at a later date in Arizona.

Clayton Rise was born April 12, 1921, in Hot Springs, S.D., to Severt and Myrtle (Fisher) Rise. He graduated from the University of South Dakota.

He married Ruthalma Turner on May 27, 1943. As a first lieutenant in the infantry with Gen. Patton's Third Army, he saw combat from Normandy to the end of World War II. He left the service with the rank of captain.

He worked in Louisiana for the Federal General Accounting Office and then returned to Sioux City to practice in public accounting. He joined the accounting firm of Taylor and Nichols as a partner in June 1955. On May 1, 1956, the firm name was changed to Taylor, Nichols and Rise, and is now known as Nichols, Rise & Company. He retired from the firm in 1997.

He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Iowa Society of CPAs and various community organizations for many years. Clayton loved fishing in Canada, golfing, and playing handball. At the age of 70, he was Sioux City's 1991 Handball Player of the Year.

He is survived by his wife, Ruthalma of Sun City West; three sons, Rick and his wife, Margie of Casa Grande, Ariz., Mark of Monticello, Minn., and Scott of San Francisco, Calif.; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marvelyne Rise of Bergen, Norway, and Sharon Rise of Chicago, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
