Robert C. "Bob" Bandfield, 85, of Sioux City, died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mayflower Congregational Church, with the Rev. Rayann Burham-Cummings officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Robert C. "Bob" Bandfield was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Donald and Prue (Hahn) Bandfield. He attended school in Waterloo and graduated from East Waterloo High School in 1937. Following graduation, he started work for Iowa Public Service in March 1937.

He married Maybeth Rice on May 28, 1938, in Waterloo. She passed away Oct. 12, 1970. In November 1943, he was drafted and served in the Sea Bees for the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. In 1969, he was transferred with I.P.S. to Sioux City. He married Lois Diederich Smith on Jan. 22, 1972, in Sioux City. He retired after 40 years of service from Iowa Public Service, now MidAmerican Energy, in December 1978. Following retirement, he enjoyed traveling, fishing and spending time with friends and family.

He was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church, where he served as president, vice president and then treasurer for 10 years, as well as a deacon and trustee.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Sioux City; a son, James Bandfield of Minneapolis, Minn.; two daughters, Pamela Ross and her husband, Tim of Sioux City, and Wendy Moen and her husband, Galyn of Destin, Fla.; two stepsons, Kenneth R. Smith and his wife, Charla of Bennett, Colo., and Steven R. Smith and his wife, Susan of Sioux City; a brother, Harold Bandfield of Waterloo; two sisters, Mary Stansberry and Betty Missersmith, both of Traer, Iowa; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Maybeth, he was preceded in death by a son, William in November 1980; and a brother, Arlo in December 2001.

Memorials may be made in his name to Hospice of Siouxland.
