SIOUX CITY -- Lillian J. Rider, 92, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Sanford Care Center in Vermillion, S.D.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at meyerbroschapels.com.

Lillian was born the daughter of Joel and Gertrude (Pollard) Hanson on June 9, 1917, in Sioux City. She received her education in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1934.

She married Evert A. Rider in Elk Point, S.D., in 1936. Evert preceded her in death in April 1959, in Chicago, Ill., where the family lived for four years. Lillian worked for Duke's Radio Company from 1960 until its closing. She then worked as a senior aide for the Woodbury County Community Action Agency.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and its chapter of Catholic Daughters of America. She was a woman of faith and strength who will be remembered for her wit, warmth, independence and love of family.

She is survived by four daughters, Gail Moran of Lansing, Ill., Janice (Ivan) Ellis of Shoreline, Wash., Celia (Dale) McGill of Newcastle, Neb., and Jean Johnson of Poway, Calif.; former son-in-law, Stephen Johnson of Ramona, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Loretta and Mary; three brothers, Harold, Frank and James; and a son-in-law, William Moran.
