31 March 2010SERGEANT BLUFF -- Garry L. Comer Sr., 68, of Sergeant Bluff passed away Monday, March 1, 2010, at Embassy Rehab and Care Center.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Earl Fuoss officiating. Abiding by his wishes, the body was cremated. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.
Garry was born May 23, 1941, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to Archie and Phyllis (Arrasmith) Comer. He attended Spencer High School in Spencer, Iowa, and Western Iowa Tech Community College.
He married Patricia Privett in 1983. He worked at IBP in the hide plant, Metz Bakery and he bought, sold and restored antiques.
He loved to learn everything about antiques and teaching others about them, especially his daughter, Debbie. He enjoyed spending time with his family and helping his wife, Pat, in the butterfly garden at Dinosaur Park.
Garry is survived by his wife, Pat; his children, Debbie (Kenneth) Clark of Sergeant Bluff, Patty Carrell of Elk Point, S.D., Garry L. Comer Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind., Heather (Joe) Dungan of Aurelia, Iowa, Neal Comer of Minnesota, and Jason Comer of Kingsley, Iowa; stepchildren, Nick (Connie) Privett of Sioux City, Shirley Privett of Burlington, Iowa, Brian, John and Jim Privett of Sumpter, S.C., Cindy Privett of Davenport, Iowa, and Julie (Michel) Touihri of Charleston, S.C.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for use in the butterfly garden.
