31 March 2010SIOUX CITY -- Rick "Glen" Pederson, 65, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Burial will be in the Obert City Cemetery, Obert, Neb. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Glen was born Sept. 26, 1944, in Maskell, Neb., the son of Glen and Delores (Anderson) Pederson. He attended Central High School until the 10th grade and then later received his general education diploma. He graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan., in 1980, with a degree in baking from the American Institute of Baking. He worked for Metz Baking for 34 years before retiring due to poor health. Glen took great pride in producing the best baked goods during his tenure of 17 years as assistant superintendent and superintendent of production while working at Metz Bakery.
He married Carolyn Heinemann on Jan. 5, 1963, in Sioux City.
He was a member of the Baker's Union Local 433. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan and enjoyed following his children and grandchildren in their various sporting activities. Glen also enjoyed spending time with his friends and drinking beer at the Red Room Bar.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Sioux City; four sons, Vincent and his wife, Carolyn Pederson, Richard Pederson, Paul Pederson and Daymond Pederson and his special friend, Callie McCord, all of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Michele and Peter VanderWeide of Sioux City; a brother, Randy Pederson of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Linda and Tom Hendricks of Sioux City; and 11 grandchildren, Pachel, Phlecia, Rulin, Jade, Hannah, Lea, Jorgus and James Pederson, Tony, Luke and Lexi VanderWeide.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Janet Kayl.
Pallbearers will be Rich, Paul, Daymond and Rulin Pederson, Rick Heinemann and Tom Hendricks.
