31 Aug 1996Denison, Iowa--Doris Bethene Romsom, 94, of Denison, formely of Oto, Iowa, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 1996, at the Denison Care Center.
The body will be cremated and private family graveside services will be held at the Oto Cemetery under the direction of Pfannebecker Funeral Home of Denison.
Mrs. Romsom, the former Doris Bethene Peasley, was born July 31, 1902, in Oto, the daughter of Claude and Clara (Warner) Peasley. She grew up in Oto and graduated from Oto High School in 1920. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for two years and received a teaching certificate. She taught school, for several years in the rural Oto and Moville, Iowa areas, before moving to Omaha, Neb. There she enrolled in the Misner Acting School, where she became a professional actress and director. She performed and directed in the Omaha area and toured nationwide with the company for several years. She then embarked in a career in women's cosmetics in Chigaco, Ill., living and working in cities such as New York City and Washington, D.C. She married Clarence Romsom in May 1944 in Chicago. The couple made their home in Los Angeles, Calif, beforemoving to Yucaipa, Calif. Mr. Romsom died in December 1979. Mrs. Romsom was a 30 year resident of Yucaipa before moving to the Denison Care Center in November 1986.
Mrs Romsom was a member of the Unity Church in Yucaipa.
Survivors include a niece, Mary Iris Petersen of Correctionville, Iowa; a nephew, Ted Priem of Portland, Ore, a sister-in-law, Bobbie Peasley of Cedar Park, Texas; and other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Warner and a sister, Iris Priem.
