Oto, Iowa--Evelyn Marie Coon, 80, of Oto died Saturday, July 20, 1996 of cancer at her farm home north of Oto.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Oto United Church of Christ with Pastor Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in the Oto Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mrs. Coon was born July 2, 1916 in Danbury, the daughter of Mark and Anna (Dose) Andersen. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and since childhood was a member of the Oto UCC.
She married Wayne Coon Jan. 28, 1933. The couple farmed the place where he was born throughout their married life. He died Dec. 6, 1986.
She enjoyed gardening, church work and ceramics.
Mrs. Coon was a member of the Farm Womens Club, Oto UCC and Ladies Mites Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Benton and her husband, Oren, of Denver, Colo; a daughter-in-law, Norma Coon of Dubuque; eight grandchildren, James, Jeanne, Julia, Cynthis, Nancy, Suzanne, Jennifer and Jill; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen DeBoer of Artesia, Calif., and Mildred Kounkel and her husband, Ralph of LeMars, and a brother, William Andersen and his wife, Marjorie of Gilmore City.
She was preceded in death by a son, Cecil; a brother, Mark and asister, Irene Mae.
