3 Jan 1996Oto, Iowa- Cecil Wayne Coon, 62, of Dubuque, Iowa, formely of Oto, died Friday, Dec. 29, 1995, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at the United Church of Christ in Oto with burial in the Oto Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Henry McKenna American Legion POst 651 of Oto and VFW Post 9124 of Oto. The Ed Siegert-Al Didesch COlonial Funeral Home in Dubuque handled- arrangements. Walter-Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton is in charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Coon was born JUly 23, 1933, in Oto, the son of Virgil Wayne and Evelyn Marie (Andersen) Coon. He graduated from Oto High School and Morningside College in Sioux City.
He married Norma Cox Sept. 8, 1951, in Oto. He was employed in the industrial engineering department at John Deere, retiring in 1991.
Mr. Coon was a veteran of the Lorean War, serving from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Oto.
Survivors include his wife: a son, James of Dodge Center, Minn: a daughter, Jeanne and her husband, Adam James of Fort Worth, Texas: three grandchildren, Alex Matthew and Hannah James: his mother, Mrs. Evelyn Coon of Oto: and a sister, Beverly and her husband, Oren Benton of Denver, COlo.
He was preceded in death by his father Virgil in 1986.
A memorial has been established in his name.
