PFC. RICHARD EARNEST DROWNS IN PACIFIC
Word was received Monday of the death of Marine Pfc. Richard Earnest, 20, of Correctionville, Iowa, who drowned Saturday night, while swimming at South Laguna Beach, California.
Pfc. Earnest is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Earnest of Correctionville, formerly residents of the vicinity of James.
Richard was a former student at the Hinton school. He was serving with the Marines at Camp Pendleton, Cal.
At the time of his death, it is reported, that while swimming with his wife and a group of friends, he was swept out to sea by the tide. Mrs. Earnest was rescued as was the others in the party. His body was recovered Sunday.
Marine Pfc. Duane Spies and Marine Pfc. Don Richards, were among the party at the time of the accident.
Pfc. Earnest enlisted in the Marines last February. He married Miss Lila Wechler of Correctionville on May 5, of this year.
The body is being shipped home for burial.
