Sister Mary Miguela, Hines, BVM
Sister Mary Miguela Hines, BVM of Marian Hall, 1050 Carmel Dr., Dubuque, Iowa, died at 9:50 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998 at Marian Hall.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Marian Hall Chapel with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. The Hoffman-Schneider Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Sister Mary Miguela was an elementary and high school teacher in Illinois, Iowa, Montana and Nebraska.After her retirement from teaching, she became the first BVM to serve on the staff at the St. Martin Catholic Worker House in Peoria and Rock Island where she served as the house mother for transients.
Sister Mary Miguela was also a contributing columnist for the Catholic Post. She also taught at the Men's Reformatory in Anamosa, IA.
She was born March 8, 1901 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter of Michael and Mary Ellen (Larkin) Hines. She was christened Catherine Hines.She made her first profession of religious vows on Aug. 15, 1926 and her final profession on Aug. 15, 1932.
Surviving nieces and nephews and cousins; and the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with whom she shared life for 74 years.
Memorial may be given to the Sisters of Charity BVM Retirement Fund.
