Gerald “Jerry” Phillip & Mary Margaret (Jones) Flemming

Jerry Flemming, the son of Paul and Mary (Carr) Flemming, was born June 28, 1912, on the family farm near Correctionville. While growing up he worked on the farm and sand/gravel pit on the farm.

He graduated from Correctionville High School in 1932. He then traveled around the country, eventually landing in Alaska where he lived for approximately eight years. Upon returning to Correctionville, he enlisted in the Army and was eventually sent to Jerome, Arizona, to work in a copper mine along with other soldiers.

Margaret, the daughter of Tom and Mamie (Mann) Jones, was born August 24, 1917, at Pierson, Iowa. She grew up in the Pierson area, graduating from Pierson High School in 1934. She then attended the Sioux City Academy of Cosmetology, receiving her cosmetology license in 1936.

Margaret and Jerry were married in August 1942 and moved to Jerome, Arizona, where Jerry, in the Army, was working in a copper mine, as did many servicemen during World War II. While in Jerome their first son, Terrance Edward was born.

In 1944 the family returned to Correctionville where Jerry and Margaret lived out the rest of their lives. Jerry held various jobs over the years including garage foreman in a car dealership in Correctionville, driving the Mobile tank wagon, running the Rock Station building the Mobil Station on Highway 20 and farming on the family farm.

Margaret ran a beauty shop for many years and at one time had the longest continually running business in Correctionville.

They had two more children, David Gerald, born in 1946 and Mary Ellen, born in 1949.
