Stanley & Betty (Schumacher) Fitch
Stanley Fitch was born January 29, 1923, on the home farm southeast of Correctionville to Leslie Ray and Lola May (Joy) Fitch, the second of eight children. He quit school during his 11th year and worked as a farm hand for a few years. He was drafted into the Navy in August 1943, attended diesel mechanic school and was on a repair ship, the USS Oahu.
He married Betty Schumacher on October 23, 1943, while on leave. He was honorable discharged in December 1945. He returned to Correctionville where he worked as a mechanic for Charlie Pohlman and Bud Madison. He rented farms and bought the Art Beers farm north of town in 1966, retiring in 1989 and moving to town in 2000.
Betty was born March 7, 1926 on a farm north of Danbury to Theodore Roosevelt and Iona Maud (Mahin) Schumacher, as their second of six children. Betty graduated from Correctionville High School in 1943 and taught country school for three years. She was strictly a homemaker after that.
Stanley and Betty have four children; Randy Gene who married Beverly Florke, Lonnie Allen, who married Jeanette Beeson; Zoann Deborah, who married Michael Smith; and Lynn Larie, who married Len Lindquist Sr. They also have ten grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
