Everett “Cappy” & Ruby Lurena (Todd) King
Everett “Cappy” King was born in Correctionville, Iowa to Jay Cecil “Curly” and Freda Catrina Johanna (Harm) King on July 12, 1923. Everett served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was with an engineering outfit in France. He was hit with shrapnel during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium and received the Purple Heart.
He married Ruby Lurena Todd on June 15, 1951 at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville, Iowa and has lived at their current address since 1954. Ruby is the daughter of Henry William Todd Sr. and Cassie Eliza Adamson of Correctionville.
Everett and Ruby have six children; Linda married Franklin “Fritz” Wigand; Lynn “Bim” married Marie Coyne; Lori; Lynette married Bryan Shever, Lisa married Mike Sorensen; and Lorna married Tom Brockman.
Cappy worked at Anderson Garage and ran the State Liquor Store in Correctionville. He retired in 1988 from the post office in Des Moines where he worked in the bulk mailing center.
Ruby worked as bath manager at the Correctionville swimming pool, assembly foreman at Beall and Buckley and as a kitchen aide at the Correctionville Nursing Home.
