History of Woodbury County, Iowa 1984

Raymond V Thoreson family
By Raymond V THoreson

Raymond V Thoreson was born March 22, 1925, the seventh child of Adolph and Theolena (Kaiskett) Thoreson. My family ancestry came to America form Hamor, Norway in 1856 and settled in the Soldier Valley Community of Monona County in Iowa. In 1949, I was united in marriage to Christina Maxine Longlee who was born May 5, 1925, the seventh child of Chris and Mathilda (Casperson) Longlee. Her parents came from Aurskog, Norway in 1892 and they too were farmers who settled in the Soldier Valley Community of Monona County in Iowa. To this union ere born two daughters, Deborah Lou, born 1950, and Lynne Rae, born 1954. Debbie is married to Dave Speidel and they have one son, Matthew David. Lynne is married to Phil McBride.

In 1955 we purchased our 120 acre farm which is located in Concord Township of Woodbury County from Hans Hanson. We officially made our home here in February of 1956. In 1976 we subdivided forty of our acres and created the Thoreson Subdivision of this county. We now rent our land out while I work full-time in Sioux City, but we continue to enjoy our rural farm life in Woodbury County.
