Emil H Thoms and his wife, Anna Margaret, nee Sachau, came to Woodbury County in May 1924. Their children were Luise A, Luella M and John J. They came from Manilla, Iowa, where Mr Thoms had been business after having farmed in the Denison – Deloit area in Crawford County for a number of years. The family farmed in the Moville area with E H Thoms also engaged in a trucking business. He had a fleet of trucks and serviced many farmers and cattle feeders and serviced many farmers and cattle feeders in this area. The children attended the Climbing Hill school.

From farming and trucking in this area, he left his family and moved to Portland, Oregon. His wife and eldest daughter continued on the farm, moving to Sioux City in 1951, when Luise married Evans Heisler of Castana, Iowa. Mrs Thoms lived with them for several years before moving into an apartment.

E H Thoms died in 1968 and is buried in the Arlington Cemetery at Moville, Iowa. Anna M Thoms died in 1969, and is also buried in the cemetery in Moville.
