Ludwig Utesch Family

Ludwig Utesch was born in Kleinparen, Germany and married Clara Maria Buck, born in Giesbaide, Germany, May 24, 1882, died December 24, 1896. She is buried at Midway.

Four sons and two daughters were born.

I( Gustave Utesch married Lisa who had Anna, married Christ Warner, whose son was Arnold.

Meta died in infancy.

Henry Utesch married Lily, who had Norma, Elaine and Florence.

II( Rudolph Henry Utesch, who was married to Wilhemina Wehman. Rudolph was born August 2, 1848, at Little Parine, Germany, and died April 1, 1928 at Correctionville, and was buried at Midway Cemetery. Rudolph came to America in 1883 with his mother, Glena and Herman. To this union Rudolph and Wilhemina, Emma Utesch was born September 14, 1886, near Battle Creek, and she was married to Fred Myer, January 19, 1912, at Wakonda, South Dakota. They had no children. She died October 8, 1965, and Fred died December 28, 1938.

Rudolph’s second marriage, in 1885, was to Louisa (Wehman) Assenschmidt, born December 6, 1855, died November 28, 1900, at Battle Creek and is buried at Midway Cemetery.

Anna (Assenschmidt) Utesch was adopted by Rudolph. She was born October 19, 1877, and died August 19, 1950. Anna married Henry Barnhardt. They had twelve children.

To this union of Rudolph and Louise were born: William Rudolph; Clara Charlotte; Emil Ludwig; and Bertha Rose. William was born May 3, 1889 at Midway and died May 7, 1960 at St Joseph’s Hospital, Sioux City, Iowa. He married Mary Cleao Parks, born January 12, 1892, Danbury, Iowa, and died July 28, 1960 at Correctionville, on February 4, 1914. They had seven children: Faye, Violet, Marjorie, Alice, William, Jr, Phyllis and Wanda.

Clara Charlotte Utesch Hatch, born February 10, 1891, Midway, died at Wakonda, South Dakota, February 22, 1961, was married September 4, 1917, to Cyrus Floyd Hatch, born May 29, 1895, died January 25, 1962. They had two children: Ardell and Warren.

The third child was Emil Ludwig Utesch, born November 10, 1892, at Midway, died May 1, 1964, at Kalispell, Montana. He married December 6, 1916, to Alice Meyer, born October 29, 1896, died August 28, 1917. They had no children.

The fourth child is Bertha Rose Utesch Nelson, born December 12, 1893, at Midway and still living. She married Albert C Nelson, born June 30, 1891, died April 19, 1963. Four children were born to them: LaVerne, Darold, Donald, and Donna.

Rudolph’s third marriage in April 1906 was to Bertha Schultz Voight. To this union was born Harry Utesch, born January 14, 1907, who married Gertrude Swanger, born July 23, 1916, died. They had two children.

III( The third child of Ludwig and Clara was Minna Louise Utesch Rathje, born August 29, 1857, died October 19, 1944. She was married to William Rathje and they had two children: Minnie and William.

IV( Herman Utesch was born December 30, 1854, died January 11, 1930, and never married.

V( Helena Utesch, born October 24, (1856?), died December 27, 1944, never married.

VI( Benjamin Utesch, youngest child of Ludwig, married and had two daughters and two sons. They were never heard from after World War I; they had stayed in Germany.
