Clarence and Esther (Timmerman) Rowe

Esther Malena Timmerman was born at Monona, Allamakee County, in eastern Iowa, on March 5, 1896. Her parents were: Frederick Timmerman and Amelia Krueger. Esther’s father, Frederick, died on April 7, 1896, when she was only a month old.

Esther attended school in Linton Twp., Allamakee County, Iowa, before moving to Oto, Iowa, where she attended school, graduating from Oto High School.

Her sister, Mabel, and brother, Herman, lived at Archer and she spent time at their homes. She met Clarence Rowe, who worked on the railroad. They were married on June 28, 1919, at Sheldon, Iowa. They made their home in Archer. They had two daughters: Norene Fay Rowe, born May 3, 1920, and Gladys Mae Rowe, born August 24, 1922. Both girls graduated from Archer, High School.

Norene married Dick Sanders on August 18, 1941, at South Sioux City, Nebraska. They are the parents of three children: Rick, Greg and Lori. They made their home in Sanborn, Iowa. They owned a motel there, are now retired and are living in Sanborn.

Gladys went to California after graduation and worked in defense plants there. She married J Harms; they lived in Seattle, Washington and were the parents of several children. They were divorced and she has remarried. She still lives in Seattle.

After the girls left home, Esther moved to Sheldon, Iowa. She worked as a clerk in a store there. She became ill, with cancer, and died August 23, 1970. Burial was in the Sanborn, Iowa, cemetery.
