John Parkhill was born December 1841 in Ireland (believed to be the Northern part), to Hugh Parkhill, born in Scotland and Sarah Fitzpatrick, born in Ireland. John died May 26, 1918, in Woodbury County, Iowa, and is buried in Sioux City.

John married Elizabeth Murphy in Ireland. Elizabeth was born March 12, 1845 in Ireland to Thomas Murphy and Rosetta Boyland. Elizabeth died March 20, 1918, in Woodbury County, and is buried in Sioux City. John was a farmer in Woodbury County many years. He came first to Illinois then to Iowa, when he came to the United States.

Their children were:
Sarah, born March 12, 1864, died 1944 in Missoula, Montana;
James, born October 1872, in Illinois;
John, born April 21, 1874, in Illinois, died August 11, 130, in Sioux City;
Maggie, born February 1875 at Keokuk County, Iowa;
Eliza Jane, born October 14, 1878, in Pottawattamie County, Iowa;
Lillie Mae, born September 10, 1881;
Charles Thomas, born May 21, 1884, at Smithland, died February 19, 1950, at Oto, Iowa;
Hugh S, born June 9, 1891, Woodbury County, died February 1, 1972, in Denver, Colorado.

Many of the descendants of John Parkhill still live in Woodbury County, Iowa.
