Gordon and Linda (Timmerman) Mead

MaLinda Ruth Timmerman was born in a log house July 10, 1894, near Volney, Allamake County, Iowa. Her parents were Frederick Timmerman and Amelia Krueger.

She went to a country school in Linton Township. Her grandmother, Henrietta Hintz Krueger, helped her with her spelling.

By 1910 she was living in Grant Township, Woodbury County, in the Jack Weathers home, as a servant.

Linda married Gordon Mead on November 22, 1912, at Oto.

Gordon Wait Hall Mead was born 16 September 1891 at Oto. His parents were Platt Mead, who was born in Iowa, and Phoebe May Sullivan, who was born in Wyoming.

Linda and Gordon had two sons: Wayne, born September 30, 1913 at Oto; and Gale, born July 12, 1922, at their home in Sioux City, at 1407 West 2nd Street.

Gordon worked for Bekins Van and Storage Co. and Collins Transfer, while they lived in Sioux City. After living at 1407 West 2nd Street for many years, they had a house built at 211 Rebecca Street. They were living in Omaha by 1940. By 1942 they had moved to California. In the 1950’s they lived on a dairy farm outside of Tillamook, Oregon. At the time of their 50th wedding anniversary celebration, in 1962, they were living near Los Angeles, California, again.

Gordon died in 1965 in California. Linda had a stroke in August 1978 and passed away in a nursing home in Bellflower, California on December 13, 1979.

Wayne married Allene from LeMars. Their son ‘Butch’ was born here on January 29, the late 30’s. Wayne drove for Bekins, making many trips to California. Allene was a beautician. Allene died in about 1975, and Wayne, about January 7, 1978. They had made their home in the Los Angeles, California area. Butch and his wife are divorced; they did have children.

Gale married in California. His wife died since 1980; they had no children.
