Roger Arthur Huot, son of Raoul and Marie Louise Hubert Huot, was born November 9, 1905, in Lakeport Township, Woodbury County. He attended St Joseph’s School. Following the 1929 death of his uncle, Charles Findlay, Roger moved into the ‘old’ Ryan farm which was then owned by Peter Brechtel. The farming was done with horses which had to be allowed to rest at ends of fields. He also had a corn sheller which was powered by a Wallis Tractor. Later, he also farmed for the Francis family, Fred Wheeler and Otis Rodgers. Roger liked visiting at Art’s Station, cards and family gatherings.

On April 18, 1936, in Salix, Roger and Kathryn Bratton were married by Rev Edward Dunn. She was the daughter of Arthur D and Ruth Bratton, and was born in Hoxie, Arkansas, on December 12, 1913. She started school at Whiting, and attended various rural schools. She attended Sloan school from grade six until graduation.

They were the parents of four children, Roger David, born April 16, 1937, married to Judith O’Keefe, born December 16, 1937, in Sioux City. Their children age: David Roger, Diane Therese, Thomas James, and Mark Patrick.

Karen Sue, born September 29, 1938, married Arnold White, William Kucera. Children: Maureen Rose White, Ann Frances Kucera.

Ruth Marie, born September 22, 1938, married DelRae Schieffer. Children: Mary, Susan, Theresa, Michael, Frances, Anthony, Arthur, and Gregory.

John Maurice, born February 20, 1946, married Susan Fox, Celayne Granger. Children: Jon William and Jason Charles.

Roger died on July 31, 1968, in Sioux City, and was buried in St Joseph’s Cemetery. Following Roger’s death, Kathryn purchased a home on Tipton Street, and moved in November 11, 1968.
