Elmer L Lundquist
By Edmund L Lundquist

Elmer L Lundquist was born October 1, 1892, at Stanton County, Nebraska. His parents had immigrated from Mora, in Darlana, Sweden in 1870, coming first to Omaha, Nebraska, where they spent the winter, then to Oakland, Nebraska, where his mother and sister waited while father Andrew Lundquist looked for land on which to homestead. His father, Andrew Lundquist, walked out to Algion, Nebraska, and then back to Norfolk, Nebraska, where he found suitable land. Then on to Dakota City, Nebraska, to file his claim and back to Oakland to pick up his wife and daughter and then headed west to their new home. There were other Swedes from their homeland area, and they built a log house until a new and larger frame house could be built.

The children attended school in Norfolk and then Elmer worked in a bank at Winside, then Carroll and later Hendley, Nebraska for Edmund R Burney. A chance to buy the Farmers State Bank in Marcus, Iowa, caused him to move there, where he met and married Florence Cisne, June 14, 1914. She was daughter of local merchant. A son, Edmund LeRoy, was born in 1915, and daughter, Margaret Lucille, was born in 1918. A chance to progress came and he moved to Sioux City so sold the bank at Marcus and bought into First Trust and Savings Bank in Sioux City and also interest in cereal manufacturing business, Kernels of Wheat.

At time of moving, a business and church friend also moved, and they purchased three lots in Morningside on St Aubin Street and divided the lots, each building a new home. The Lundquist home was completed in November 1920. Changes in the economy forced moving from the home and he entered into insurance business, continuing until retirement. He passed away March 30, 1973, survived by wife and two children.
